Outage Caused by Internal Timing Server Reboot

July 10, 2024

Home, Kan. - 7/10/2024 – Blue Valley Technologies (BVT) experienced a widespread outage on July 9th affecting broadband, television, and telephone service for customers in Washington, Marshall, Nemaha, and Pottawatomie counties for several hours.

The point of failure that caused the outage was the company’s internal timing server that rebooted. “It was an odd situation that was extremely hard to pinpoint,” said John Smith, BVT Chief Operations Officer. “It required us to dispatch technicians to 18 different central office locations in order to sync data back up to our core network. I have never seen this happen in my 30 years in the industry.”

The equipment failure also impacted a few cellular towers in the service area, as they are fiber-fed by BVT through the Kansas Fiber Network.

“I want to give a heartfelt thank you from all of us at BVT to our customers,” said Candace Wright, BVT Chief Executive Officer. “We know outages cause frustration and inconvenience. Broadband is the backbone to many of our activities today. We thank you for your patience, and for communicating with us throughout the day as we resolved this problem. We all know technology isn’t always perfect, and all broadband providers experience outages from time to time. I am proud of our team for resolving this issue and for staying on top of communication with our customers throughout this challenge.”

If any BVT customers are continuing to experience service problems, BVT encourages them to report their trouble to 877-876-1228.
