Connecting Classrooms: How Reliable Internet Transforms Early Learning
 

As a teacher, I use the internet on a daily, even hourly basis in the classroom. Access to reliable internet allows me to seamlessly deliver lessons and access essential materials online for my students. Even in the preschool classroom, the internet is crucial to my daily lesson plans. In addition to supplemental songs and videos, our new school-wise social skill curriculum is offered solely through an online platform. High-speed internet keeps our classroom running smoothly with minimal waiting for the kids.

I use student devices minimally in my classroom because most of our days are spent with hands-on experiences. However, our student iPads are a great option when the weather keeps us inside for recess. My preschoolers have always loved using the Starfall app, and I love it too because it provides endless developmentally appropriate educational content.

I love infusing our lessons and day with nursery rhymes, music, and dance – and I could not do that without a strong internet connection. The internet allows me to engage my students in content that is interactive and visually stimulating.

I communicate on a daily and weekly basis with my class parents through the Seesaw app. This app allows me to share with parents photos of what their little learners are doing at school, as well as classroom newsletters and important reminders. I love having a tool in my pocket that allows my students’ parents and I to communicate easily and frequently. I believe students learn best when there is a strong connection between home and school.

When I first started teaching 17 years ago, the main visual tool I used was an overhead projector! With reliable high-speed internet, I can now instantly access content to supplement my lessons. I can’t imagine going back to the days of transparency worksheets! BVT has enriched my classroom in so many ways.
