Spotlight on Local Broadcasting:

Bruce Dierking, KNDY Radio, and the Power of Fiber Connectivity

In the heart of Marysville, Kan., Bruce Dierking stands as a pillar of local broadcasting. As the owner and operator of KNDY/KNDY FM Marysville, KDNS FM/KZDY FM Glen Elder/Beloit, and KQNK/KQNK FM Norton, Bruce has dedicated his life to keeping communities informed and connected. Today, that mission is stronger than ever—thanks to the speed and reliability of fiber internet.

Bruce’s journey began in 1976 as a freshman at Marysville High School, where he first stepped behind the microphone. After attending Colby Community College, he returned to his roots at KNDY and took ownership of the station in 1988. His passion for local radio has only grown since.

KNDY AM 1570 first hit the airwaves in 1956, founded by local investors including Marysville Advocate publisher Byron Guise. In 1974, KNDY FM 95.5 was launched under Herb and Ruby Hoeflicker, who ran the station for nearly two decades. Today, Bruce leads a dedicated team that continues to deliver local news, weather, and sports—services that remain vital in an era of information overload.

“The way radio operates has definitely evolved,” Bruce explained. Streaming audio, mobile apps, and podcasts have expanded KNDY’s reach, and fiber internet makes it all possible. “We absolutely LOVE our relationship with our local provider,” Bruce says, noting the recent fiber installation at the Marysville studio and the switch to VoIP phone service. Fiber’s unmatched speed and reliability allow KNDY to stream live broadcasts without interruption, upload podcasts quickly, and collaborate seamlessly with BVtv for live sports coverage on Channel 3.

For Bruce, fiber isn’t just about technology—it’s about community. “We live and die by local listener and advertiser support,” he says. “Continued support of our local businesses is so vital in creating communities that are attractive for our residents.” Fiber strengthens that mission by ensuring local voices are heard loud and clear, whether over the airwaves or online.
