DIY Router Installation

Follow the steps below to correctly install your new router. 

Step 1: Choosing the proper router location. To maximize WiFi performance and coverage please follow the below steps when determining the best location for your router.

1. Find a Central Location: Routers transmit in a circle. So, by choosing a central location in your home, you can improve WiFi coverage and network security.
2. Choose an Open Space: Avoid placing your router in a cupboard or spare room. Try to keep your router out in the open where the signal may reach farther in your home.
3. Elevate: Raise your router off the floor or place it on a shelf or wall mount to avoid obstructions and improve signal.
4. Avoid Walls: Thick walls, especially brick or concrete, can absorb wireless signals and weaken your connection.
5. Analyze Your Home Layout: If you have a two-story house, place your router on the second floor or on the same floor where most devices are located for better WiFi coverage and performance. In larger homes, you might want to consider our mesh WiFi system with a router on the main floor and additional extenders connected throughout the house. Step 2: Hardware installation. Once proper location is determined please follow the steps below to get your router plugged in properly. For additional help, refer to the photo posted below. 

1. Locate WAN/Internet cable and plug into WAN/Blue port on back of router.
2. LAN/Yellow ports on router are used for hardwiring devices like PCs and game consoles. (Do not plug internet service into LAN/Yellow ports.)
3. Locate round black power cable and plug into power port on the back of the router and connect to a wall outlet.
4. After your router has fully booted you should be able to connect to your WiFi network and enjoy your high-speed Blue Valley internet.
